Striggow Places at State

Sophomore Captain Bobby Striggow placed fifth in the 182 pound AA weight class at the State Tournament Saturday.

Striggow opened the tournament on Friday with a second period fall over Brandon Gore of South St. Paul in 3:33. In the quarter final match Friday evening he defeated Byron’s Alex Bertram by a 6-4 decision. He came up short in the semifinal round Saturday by losing 6-4 to Spencer Elwell of Foley 6-4. In the consolation semifinal round he lost to Cameron Schmitz of New Prague 3-2. Striggow regained his footing and pinned Brandon Gore again in the final match to finish in fifth place.

Sophomore Marcus Ostvig (113) and Senior Captain Jonny Schmid (126) lost their opening round matches Friday and were unable to advance.

Head Coach Joe McPherson complimented the boys on their season and is looking forward to a stronger finish next year.

The tournament, held at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul over three days had a total attendance of 56,381.
